PUBLIC SERVICE BILL.
A POSTAL PROTEST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. The local branch of the Post and Telegraph Officers' Association passed a resolution supporting those of the Dunedin and Invercargill branches, protesting against this department being treated as others under the Public Service Bill. It urges the special nature of the duties, entailing night, holiday, Sunday and broken time as a reason for separate treatment. The Minister is asked to give an opportunity to the representatives of the Association to give evidence before a Parliamentary committee. WANGANUI'S WANTS. Wanganui, Last Night. At a meeting of the Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Officers' Association, held this evening, the following resolutions were passed: That this meeting emphatically protests against the inclusion of the Post find Telegraph Department in the Public Service Bill, on the following grounds: (1) That the Post and Telegraph Department is dissimilar to all departments included in the Hill in the nature of the work performed and in the hours of duty; (2) that under the proposed Bill the rights now existing and granted a« compensation to cover unnatural and extraordinary working periods will be lost; (3) that if the Post and Telegraph Department is included in the proposed Bill, all internal administrative legislation will be wiped out, and twenty years' endeavor set at nought; llmt this branch respectfully requests that, opportunity be offered representatives from the various branches to give evidence before a select, committee'of the House of Representatives in support „f tlieir special claim.
