I By Telegraph.—Press Association. i | Wellington, Yesterday. | 1 The following is the High Commissioner's cablegram, under date Septem--1 ber 14 (quotations, unless otherwise specified, being average market prices on 1 spot):—■ Mutton.—The market is firm, with a hardening tendency, and shows signs of strength; the high prices are restricting, business for retail, but there is'a general active demand for future delivery. Prices: Canterbury 4%d, North Island 4y a d. Lamb.—The market is firm, and there is good demand for heavy-weights. Canterbury 5%d, other than Canterbury 5%d. Beef. —Tlie market is firm, and buyers ! are making forward purchases. Present prices: New Zealand hindquarters 4d, j forequarters 3%d. j Butter.—The market is firm for best quality, but quiet for ordinary quality. Fairly large quantities are at present in store. A shipment ex s.s. Rotorua arrived in good condition. Choicest New Zealand 120s, Danish 128s, Australian 112s, Siberian 108s. Cheese.—The market is steady. The average price for the week for finest New Zealand was 675, Canadian 665, English cheddar 735. Hemp.—The market is steady' at the advance. Reports from Manila indirate a high price for distant deliveries. Spot, New Zealand good fair grade £27 10s, fair grade £2O, forward shipment at the same price. Fair current Manila., spot £27 10s, forward shipment £2B. The output from Manila for the week amounted to 23,000 bales.
