Mr. Griffith. in referring to the Council's rejection nf the Savings Bank Bill, said the time had come for the elected representatives of the people to compel the Council to stand aside by abolishing it altogether, or putting in sufficient up-to-date Democrats to force it to comply with the will of the people. Mr. Griffith referred to the recent charges against him as a conspiracy. He had never .received money for his "public services beyond his salary. Members of various trade combines were trying to drive him out of public life, but he challenged them all to come on. DECENTRALISATION FORESHADOWED. Sydney. September 10. Mr. Carmichaei, speaking at Freshwater, foreshadowed a decentralisation policy and the creation of new ports to relieve Sydney, including differential railway rates.
