Le Debats emphasises the impatience of France and Britain in upholding the six Powers syndicate in order to prevent Financial groups securing a monopoly and probably disturbing the harmony of the Powers interested in China. The commercial authorities of the suburb of Schoeneberte have voted £IOOO for an experimental purchase of foreign meat to sell direct to the public. Three sailors of the British Rovril yacht Victoria Albert rescued two sailors of the Russian Imperial yacht from drowning. The Dowager Empress Marie has presented the rescuers with watches. The newspaper Sun publishes a new and largely increased cable service, with the explanation that the news published in the Times in the morning is cabled to the Sun by special permisison. SHIPPING COMPANIES' LIABILITIES. Received 16, 0.25 p.m. Sydney, September 10. In a case wherein a passenger claimed damages for injuries received aboard a vessel, the Court sustained the shipping companies' reliance on the conditions printed on the tickets repudiating all liability for injury to passengers. THE MELBOURNE COLLISION. Received 10, 0.25 p.m. Melbourne. September 10. The jury found that the railway colli: sion was caused by the negligence of Campbell, the driver of the show train. It added that the. negligence was not culpable, but was due to the condition of Campbell's health. SYDNEY HOSPITAL. Received 17. 12.25 a.m. Sydney. September 10. Plans have been prepared for altera- 1 tions and additions to the Sydney Hospital, costing £150,000. THE NEW COMET. Received 17, 12.55 a.m. Sydneyfi September 10. The calculation of the orbit of the comet shows that the nearest approach to the -im will be on October 4, when it will be 63.500.000 miles therefrom. Owing to its high inclination, it will never'approach near the earth or become a bright object to the naked eye.
