The, roads ' were dry but rough. A strong gale helped the riders in the earlier- stages and retarded them in the, latter part of the race. Upham had 40 minutes' start,' and, with Tuckwell (48min) was prominent from the start and was never overhauled. In a great finish he won by half a wheel, with Walcott four minutes behind. Upham's time was 6hr. 47min. 32sec. and Tuckwell's 6hr. 44min 32 1-5 sec. Walcott (Parramatta) did the fastest time, Ohr. 37min 17sec. He had bad luck, a tube blowing out a mile from the start. Williams, the scratch man, was fourth in 6hr. 43min. 26sec.
