VICTORIAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright, Received 15, 5.5 p.m., Melbourne, September 15. The Victorian open golf championship resulted—Whitton first, Soutar * second and Howden third. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. On Saturday, on the Ngamotu links, a bogey handicap was played. Owing to the heavy rain which fell during the day the greens were very soft. No rain fell after 2.15 p.m., and those who ventured out had an enjoyable afternoon's J play. The following are the six best scores:— F. S. Johns (handicap 1), 1 up. C. H. Weston (5) 1 down. ' G. H. Burgess (7), 1 down. W. C. Weston (scr.), 2 down. H. H. Ward (2). 2 down. H. R. Bloxam (15), 2 down. On Saturday, September 21, a teams match will be played. Members are requested to write their names on the notice board at the pavilion, or hand them in to the Match Committee not later than Thursday afternoon. TARAHUA CLUB. In the Taranaki Club's semi-final, G. Grey beat G. Chong by three up and two to play. The final now rests between G. Grey and the winner of the semi-final to be fought out between Avery and Broome. The ladies' match arranged for Saturday yas postponed on account of thorough weather. It will be played off next Saturday.
