PLOUGHING ASSOCIATION
• The toast of "The Taranaki Agricultural Society" was proposed by Mr Jas. Rattenbury, who had been one of those responsible for its formation. The speaker traversed the Society's history in an interesting speech, and thanked them for a donation made to the Association.
In reply Mr Connett said he thought that in many respecte, more especially in regard to the improvement of milking herds, the Society were somewhat behind in its ideas, but it was correcting them and becoming more modern. It. was the duty of the whole farming community to 'support the Society, and ploughing associations were inaugu-, rated in the interest of the farmer, and not for any personal gain. He felt sure that both Associationscould, and would extend their spheres of usefulness. Mr A. 01 iff, secretary of the Society, also dealt with the benefits that accrued, and said that they had come to the conclusion that the show was held at the wrong time of the year, and it was now decided that it should take place in February, when farmers were less busy.
The toast of ''The Ruimers-up" was proposed by Mr. T. Buchanan, and responded to by Messrs R. Tate and A. D. Beauchamp, 'both expressing pleasure that young men wore the victors, and that Maoris had also been, competitors.
Other toasts honored were "The Press," "Ladies" and "Our Host." . (
