Gregory won the toss, and the Australians went to the wickets, but the inning's only lasted 125 minutes, Barnes and Relf proving deadly. Excepting Bardsley, Kelleway and Minnett, the visitors made a poor showing. Bardsley batted 50 minutes. Kelleway played his slowest for 75 minutes. The scores were: AUSTR ALlA.—First Innings. Hobbs was in for fifty minutes. He was uncomfortable at the start, and was nearly bowled twice. Fry was at the wickets for 55 minutes, and did some capital driving.
