BILLS UNDER CONSIDERATION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, September 12. The Increase of Members' Salaries Bill had a narrow escape in the Legislative Council, passing its second reading on the easting vote of the President. In the Assembly, owing to Mr. Levien's absence, his motion censuring the Speaker in connection with the recent happenings was postponed for a week. Mr. Willis considered it a serious matter, and urged the necessity that the 'House should be given an opportunity to consider the motion early. Consideration of the Gas Bill in committee was resumed. Mr. Carmichacl gave notive of a series of amendments including the increase of the standard rate of interest from 4 to 10 per cent., but as a set-off he proposed that the standard price of gas should be reduced from os Od to 3s per thousand feet. -STATE HOTELS. Perth, September 12. The Assembly passed the second reading of a Bill to increase the number of State hotels. SAVINGS BANK BILL. Sydney, September 12. The Legislative Council negatived the second reading of the Savings Bank Amalgamation Bill by 22 votes to 16. MEMBERS' SALARIES. Received 13. 1.15 a.m. Sydney. September 12. The Council passed the third reading by 23 to 22 of the Bill raising the salaries of members of Parliament to .€SOO. The Assembly had alreadv passed the Bill.
