AUSTRALIA v. SOUTH OF ENGLAND. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, September 9. 1 For the match Australia v. South of England the weather was line and the wicket was easy. Webster, Emery, W'hitty and Smith were omitted from the Australian team. Chaplain won the toss. Hobbs hit his wicket In playing the first ball. Barrett did some fine driving and hit eight fours in a chaneeless innings. The fifty appeared in 55 minutes and the century in 100 minutes. Simms played a splendid innings, hitting all round the wicket. Relf did some brilliant driving, scoring a six and seven fours. The 200 went up in lfiO minutes. Vine was batting for 260 minutes, and reached his century in 235 minutes. He showed splendid defence and good driving, hitting fourteen off one of Minnett's overs. It was a chaneeless innings. Vine hit a five and fourteen fours. Kidd, after having been bowled by a no-ball from Kelleway, was missed twice before scoring. He made sixty in 65 minutes. Hitch did some big driving, and put up his score in ten minutes. Matthews' bowling was'splendid, but Kelleway bowled eight no-balls. The attendance was good.
