THE ELECTIVE COUNCIL. By Telegraph —Own Correspondent. Wellington, Last Night. The Prime Minister made a statement in the House of Representatives to-daj» with -regard to the. Government's policy Bill for the reform of the Legislative Council. "A Bill," he said, "will be laid before the House to-morrow, dealing with the matter. The measure will not lie, on the lines of that laid before the Council. It will be on different lines, but it will have the same object in view." He added that he did not propose to go into details at that juncMr. T. M. Wilford: Will it abolish the Council? Sir Joseph Ward: Does it make arrangements for similar electorates? Mr. Massey, however, declined to be drawn, and repeated that he did not propose to go into details at that stage. TARANATvI PETITION. In the House this afternoon Mr. Okey presented a petition from William Humphries. of New Plymouth, praying for relief in connection with certain native, land transactions in the Taraanki district. Mr. C. K. Wilson presented a petition from the Taranaki Presbytery, protesting against the Ne Temere decree of the Catholic. Church. Mr. Okey also presented a petition from Win. Bullet, of New Plymouth, praying for a pension for military services in the Maori War.
