Professor David was present at an influential meeting in the Town Ilall to initiate arrangements for the visit of the British Association to Australia in 1914. Lord Chelmsford presided. An organising committee "was appointed. Professor David announced that a smal. party of scientists would probably visit New Zealand, at the special invitation ot the Government. ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION. London, September 9. At the meeting of the British Association, Sir Clement Markham read a paper on Antarctic exploration. He paid a tribute to Captain Scott, as the greatest of all polar explorers. hi< expeditions being the most fruitful. He believed Captain Scott intended to solve whether the Victorian and Edwardian mountains junctioned, and also to solve the problem of the great ice barrier.
