SUMMAIIY AND FORECAST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Government Meteorological Department published the following summary and forecast at 5 p.m.:—Summary: The barometric pressure has increased everywhere, and the winds have veered to the southerly, strong to a gale in parts. Heavy squalls, with rain, were experienced on Monday night on the ■west coast and in the southern districts, and snow has fallen on some of the higher levels. The weather has been generally unsettled, and is colder. Forecast: Present indications are for southerly winds, strong to gale, but backing to "westerly and northerly after about twenty-four hours. The barometer is rising steadily in the meantime, but will be falling again. The weather is likely to prove squally and changeable, with beavy showers in most parts of the country.
