Follovring is the cablegram from the High Commissioner, under date September 7, quotations, unless other specified, being average market prices on spot:— Mutton. —The market remains firm, although' high prices are restricting business. Supplies will be moderate, however, and there are no prospects >of a decline. Canterbury 4%d (light weight), 4% (heavy weight); North Island,, 4 (light weight), i'/id (heavy weight); ewes 4d. Lumb. The market is somewhat steadier, with better demand for heavy weights. Canterbury 3%d (light weight), 5%(1 (heavy weight). Other than Canterbury 5 y 2 d. Beef.—The market is quiet, and small business is doing in frozen beef. Quotations are nominally unchanged, viz.: New Zealand hinds 37gd, fores 3'/yd. Butter. —The market is quiet, but steady. Danish 128s, Australian Ills, Siberian 108b. Cheese.—The market is firm, with an upward tendency. Canadian G7.s (white), (S7s (id (colored). Hemp.—The market is not quite so firm, as buyers are holding back oil account of high prices. Spot New Zealand good fair grade £27 ss, -fair grade £25 las, fair current Manila. £26 as; October-December shipments New Zealand good fair £27 os, fair grade £25 10b; fair current Manila £27 to £27 ss. The output of Manila for the week was 26,000 bales. Wool.—The market is firm, with a hardening tendency for crossbreds. Current quotations: Bradford tops 3G's (low crossbreds) Is l%d, 40'ts (low crossbreds) Is 2'/jd, 44's (medium crossbred®) Is 3d, 50's (half-breds), Is (quarter-breds) Is 9d, CO's (inerinos) 2s 2d. Cocksfoot Seed.—No alteration in the market since last week. Continental is offered at 44s (id, with no buyers. The River Plate shipments received during the month of August, 1912, were: London, 75,447 mutton carcases, 27,738 lamb carcases: Liverpool, 111,071 mutton. 30.219 lamb; Hull, 9114 mutton, 291 lamb; Newcastle, 7089 mutton; Southampton, 19,928 mutton, 9762 lamb; Cardiff, 300 mutton; totals, 222,949 mutton and 68.010 lamb. For August, 1911. the figures were, 257,717 mutton and 125,60(i lamb. FROZEN MEAT MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date flth inst.:—The frozen meat market continues to advance for mutton, is slightly better for beef, and there is a fair enquiry for lamb.
