AUSTRALIAN TEAM FOR AMERICA. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, September 0. The Rugby Union team to tour America, are passengers by the Moana. TARANAKI v. CANTERBURY. Much interest is being displayed in the Taranaki-Canterbury match which is to be played at Stratford on Thursday afternoon. The Taranaki team will comprise: Full-back: Tinney. Three-quarters: ' Don. Cameron, Roberts, Stohr. Five-eighths: S. Cameron, Franklin. Half: Brown. Forwards: Taylor (wing), Cain, Dewar, Tamu, Pini, Kissick, Hawkins, Whittington. Emergencies: Bertrand (back), Ryan (forward). A return match between the Hunt Club and Banks and Law will be played at Waitara on Saturday. Speaking at a football function on Saturday night, Mr. James McLeod (chairman of the Taranaki Rugby Union) remarked that a town of the size of New Plymouth should be running half-a-dozen teams; too many of the young fellows who should be playing were nowadays watching the game from the terraces. He was glad to say that within a week life membership tickets would be issued to men who had represented the province for thirty years back. Next year he hoped to institute a schools competition in which all the schools in the province would be given an opportunity to play for trophies and given encouragement in other ways by the Rugby Union. One of the chief drawbacks which they had to contend against was the dual half-holiday. The Union, however, had this matter also in hand, and shortly a petition would be circulated throughout the province, in which they were going straight out for a Saturday half-holiday. lie was quite satisfied that if all branches of sport pulled together over this matter they could bring about the desired change at any time they wished.
