A SAD FATALITY. By Telegraph—Press Assoeiation. Auckland, Last Night. An accident which terminated fatally occurred at the Newmarket railway station this afternoon, when Frederick 0. Falkner, aged 22, was killed whilst shunting. Falkner ran in front of a train of moving waggons, when his foot slipped and he fell, and before he could rise the waggons ran over him. He was removed to the hospital, where he died half an hour later. His injuries were very severe, -his right arm being practically torn from the shoulder, his right ear being torn ofT, and ho also received injury to the spine. The accident is particularly sad, as the young man had only been married about a month, and this is the third death in the family within quite a short period, his brother and sister dying a few months ago. The deceased had been in the service of the Railway Department for the past five years, and was regarded as a very promising young officer. An inquest will be held to-morrow.

A MYSTERIOUS CASE. Dunedin, Last Night. , A young woman, evidently suffering from severe internal pains, was found on the town belt, above the Boys' High School, this afternoon. She was highly nervous and hysterical. A bottle that had once contained beef and iron tonic was beside her, and indications were that she had taken an overdose of , the contents. She was taken to the hospital and had greatly improved by tonight. Her name is Ivy Brown, and 1 she lives in Clarendon street. ] SUDDEN DEATH. i iGisborne, Monday. 0. Worthy, head cliainman and assistant in the local Public Works Dej partment, a married man, hurried home i yesterday afternoon when rain set in. He became unconscious and died this \ morningp l DEAD BODY FOUND. Gisborne, Monday. A body was found in Waikanae Creek to-day, which is believed to be that of a man recently employed on the railway works at Rakauroa. A TRAP ACCIDENT. Hawera, Monday. While Mrs. Morton, of Auroa, and her nephew, John Morton Coplestone, aged three years, were driving at Otakeho on Sunday afternoon, the harness broke and the occupants were thrown out. The boy was killed. FATAL BURNING ACCIDENT. Auckland, Monday. Susanah Sharp, a single woman, aged 79 years, died from burns on Saturday. At "the inquest, Mrs. MaeArthy stated ; that deceased had been ill in bed for some weeks. She enquired the time and witness lighted a candle, and having asI certained the time, witness left the j candle alight. The curtain of her bed [ caught fire, and deceased came to her I assistance. Deceased's night apparel caught fire, and she }vas rather badly burnt. The jury returned a verdict of accidental death. ; FOUND DROWNED. j Christchurch, Last Night, j At the inquest on Harold ("Bobbie") I Smith, the medical man who made the ' post mortem examination stated that he could find no fracture of any limb nor any sign of violence. He ascribed death to drowning. Emily Smith, the boy's step-mother, said that she last saw him between 4 and 5 p.m. on July 12. He was then at home in the kitchen, and witness gave him a cup of tea. His brother Ernest was also at home. Witness saw nothiflg more of him. Witness identified the body in the morgue by the J clothes. She could not account in any way for the boy getting into the river. Ernest Smith, eleven years old, a brother of deceased, stated that ''Bobbie" was not in the habit of going out by himself. After other evidence the Coroner recorded a verdict of found drowned.
