From our Resident Reporter. FOOTBALL THE CANTERBURY TEAM. The Canterbury representative ■loam will arrive in Stratford to-iiiglit—a day late, as compared wit'll the original arrangements. This is the team that trounced Otago, Otago trounced Taranaki ami drew with Auckland, who beat Taranaki. Out of this "iiou-e-tluit-Jack-huilt" sort of argument comes the logical assumption that the hoys from the wheat province will give the Taranaki ' team a hot tussle. There promises to be a big attendance at the match, which is to be played 011 the Stratford showgrounds. This i.s a fine match ground, with ample grandstand accommodation. On arrival the team will be met by officers of the T.R.U. and members of the Reception Committee, and will be welcomed at the Municipal Chambers by the Mayor. Later in the evening they will be the guests of the Egmont Club at a social. The idea is to play a billiard match and a card match, Canterbury v. the Club. The Club teams are not yet selected, owing to the uncertainty as to the number of visitors who will take part, but they will be picked from the following:—Billiards: Messrs. P. Willson, J. Frederic, N. F. Dunlop, S. Sharpe, R. Hartley, P. Skoglund, B. Fearon, J. MacMahon and B. V. Ivivell. Cards: Messrs. C. Jackson, S. Ward, R. j Boon, R. Harkuess, T. D. Sullivan, A. ; Speck, J. Butcher. T. Wilson, H. Masters, j Ti. Wilson. G. W. Mills, T. Lawson, .J. ' Jlarston, C. D. Sole, X. l Templer, R. Handler, J. Jones. T. I). Colson, A. Woodhead, T. Sullivan, N. .T. King, and E. Blocklebank. The Club provides supper. The trip to Dawson's Falls Mountain House, if approved by the manager, will give the visitors a glimpse of inland ] Taranaki and of our finest scenic asset. Then on Wednesday night the visitors will be the guests of Mme. Bernard at His Majesty's Theatre. There is no real reason why local footballers should not line up in strong force to show their appreciation of Mme. Bernard's generosity and her encouragement of sport. The annual dinner of the Stratford Club will be held on Thursday, and the Canterbury team will be invited. The medals won during the season will be I presented. Only white woods are shown, and the price tickets are of yellow, in keeping with the scheme of decoration. The unconscious humor of the bill-pos-ter is exemplified in the appearance of one of the hoardings in town just now. "N'elseti. Moate and Co. die>." announces (he hoarding.
