THE TROUBLE AT INVERCARGILL. By Telegraph —Press Association, Inv-ereargill, Last Night. At a meeting of the Southland Rugby Union, at the enquiry into the alleged misconduct of the Otago representative footballers at the Railway Hotel was read. A motion Avas carried to the effect that the Southland Union was satisfied that the Invercargill players wero exonerated- from participating in the fracas^ THE LEAGUE GAME. Auckland, Friday. The following team has been chosen to represent Australia against New Zealand under Northern Union rules:— Hallett, Frawley, Farnsworth, Deane, Broomham, Norman, Holloway, Burg.?, Williams, Courtney, Sullivan and MeCue. Deane is included in the team subject to the approval of the New Zealand League. THE SUSPENSION OF DEANE. Auckland, Friday. The action of the Rugby League in suspending Deane is resented by the Australian team, which claims that the punishment was altogether disproportionate to the offence. They state that they expect to win without Deane, but from loyalty to one of their most popular players resent the harsh treatment meted out to him. The council of the League this afternoon will consider the protest by the manager. TREATMENT OF OTAGO MEl.i P. O'Dea writea from liawera-.—ln this morning's News I notice a paragraph from' Stratford to the effect -that the Otago team were not rushed by Rugby Union officials on Wednesday. The implication is, of course, that the Otago representatives were neglected here. This is absolutely contrary to fact. I am the only member of the Union resident in Hawera, and I think I can say I did what one man could-do to make the stay of the visitors pleasant. In fact, at the dinner in the evening, Mr. Sande«, one of the Otago managers, said they had been better treated at ITawera than at any other plaee 011 tour. The slur on the members of the Union is quite Uncalled for.
