THE WAIHI STRIKE.
POLICE REINFORCEMENTS. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Another detachment of police, consisting of ten constables, under Sergeant Miller, arrived from Christehurdi this morning and left for Waihi by the Main Trunk line. Their arrival at Waihi will bring the strength of the police force up to 45. Commissioner Cullen, Commissioner of Police, lias gone to Auckland. WAIIII—NEW CONSTABLES. Waihi, September 5. The Waihi engine-drivers to-day received a reply to their appeal to the Prime Minister for further protection. The reply was to the effect that it would receive the immediate attention of the Government. This has reassured the men both at Waihi and Waikino. The extra police force drafted in has had a salutary effect. Additional constables arrived from to-day, but, nevertheless, the, engine-drivers here, and the men working at Waikino, are daily and hourly subjected to espionage. ■
