WAITARA NEWS.
BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting was held on Wednesday evening, there being present: His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Klenner, Rattenbury, Black. 'Langman and Spurdle (who took his seat for the first time). Correspondence' was read from the Minister for Internal Affairs re the, Council's objection to a portion of the borough being excluded, and Messrs. Roy and Nicholson re Mr. Borthwiek's lease. J. Olsen, ranger and poundkeeper, sent in his resignation, owing to having moved too far away from the town. —It was decided to call for fresh applications for the position, to close on the 18t'h, and to be dealt with by a committee consisting of Crs. Black, Klenner and Rattenbury. The Fire Brigade asked that fire plug signs be erected.—The matter was referred to the Waterworks 1 Committee, with power to act. The librarian complained of the pilfering of papers from the Library. The Library Committee are to take action. In the course of his report, the engineer .recommended that the clerk of works receive «u additional shilling per day.—The recommendation was adopted, an amendment by Cr. Spurdle that no increase be granted not finding a seconder. The foreman's and overseer's reports were read. The formal resolution striking a 37-04 d bridge rate was confirmed. " : Accounts to £506 10s 2d were passed for payment.
