The death occurred at Bulawayo, South Africa, on Monday, of Mr, George H. Moore, formerly of Pahiatua, ■ A very old identity, in the person oi Mr. J. W. Matthews, late manager oi the Bank of New Zealand, Gisborne, second son of the late Dr. Matthews, and brother of Mr. C. E. Matthews, solicitor, passed away at his residence, Sarsfield street, Auckland, on Tuesday. Mr. W. Thomas, M.A., headmaster o! the Waimataitai School (Timaru), has been appointed rector of the Timam High School. >; Tlie marriage was celebrated at St. Paul's, Auckland, on Tuesday, of Mw, Koster, of New Plymouth, and Mr. W. E. Warner, of the staff of L. D. Natha» and Co. Word has been received from Queensland of the death of Mrs. Grimstoue, who resided in Blenheim for many years (says the Express). She arrived in New Zealand with her husband in 1839; and lived in Wellington for some time, from there going to Sydney and remaining there until her husband's death. Sub afterward* returned to New Zealand. She spent the declining days of her life in Toowoomba. The deceased lady was the mother of Mrs. Thomas Redwood, of Blcnlieim, Mrs. Charles Redwood, Toowoomba, and Mrs. Waddy, Palmerstoa North. She was in her 92nd year. Sub-Inspector Fouhy, who has been promoted from Aslvhurst to Dunedin, was one of the 1950 Armed Constabulary, and Volunteers who marched on Pari-' haka, the Maori stronghold, on November 5, 1881. This was the occasion on which the Hon. John Bryce rode 'his celebrated white horse at the head of the contingent, while the Hon. Mr. Holieston followed on foot. It was also the occasion on wliich the Armed Constabulary arrested the Maori prophets, Te Wihiti_ and Toliu; a murderer named Tiroki, who was afterwards executed at New Plymouth; and others. Following this, word reached the authorities 0 S serious trouble at ¥e Kuili. and SubInspector Eouhy was 'one of a <-onlin"pnti despatched to the seat of trouble. Shortly afterwards he was transferred to (ho police force in Wellington.
