The wicket was good. Emery was absent owing to a slight .cold. The Australians' innings closed' "\yitli an addition of two runs, the innings taking 225 minutes. J. T. The 51) was hoisted in an hour. llobbs I drove Hazlitt for a sixer on to the pa-1 vilion awning. He followed with three fourers in the same over. He reached 50 in 90 minutes. Seven runs later, however, Minnett found his off' stump, llobbs gave a brilliant but lucky diss- 1 play. His score included six fourers. Hayes played on without addition to the score. Tarrant and Bird added 114 for the fifth wicket. The 200 was hoisted in 200 minutes. Tarrant was in for 135 minutes. Bird and Kidd added 95 for the sixth wicket. The 300 was hoisted in 270 minutes. Bird, who was not beaten, was free all round the wicket, but returned a chance to McLaren when at 84. Kidd was in for 85 minutes. He hit a fiver.
