SENSATIONAL SHOOTING. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, September 4. The steamer Paeifique reports a sensational occurrence at Noumea on August 18. A discharged convict named Franc-, eschi, 68 years of age, was jealous of his wife, who was 45 years younger. They had a quarrel, when he* forbade her to visit her family, and he struck her and threatened her life. .She fled and her husband pursued and fired his rifle, and then barricaded himself in the house. The police and military arrived and a •iege ensued. There "was continuous firing on both sides. A soldier climbed on the roof and was shot dead. Finally » fumigating pump was introduced under the door and Franccsihi. who was unable to breathe, opened the door and a fusillade began, during whieh Franceselii was shot in eight places, bin continued shooting till he was cr.ptured and removed to the ho-pilal, when. !.<■ ( ]i f .,| shortly afterwards. Several of the military were wounded.
