JERSEY CATTLE.

MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Council of the committee of the Jersey Cattle Breeders' Association was held on 29 August, there being present:— Messrs Tapp (Anckland), Harkness (Stratord), Linn (Hawcra), McCrea (Palmerston North), Booth (Carterton). The Council had invited Mr D. Cuddie, Dairy Commissioner, to be present to discuss the scheme of the Dairy 'Division for the semi-official testing of pedigree stock. The details were gone into exhaustively and the Department's scheme was adopted. The members of the Jersey Breeders' Association will be supplied with copies of the report by the Secretory. It was also resolved to urge members to take up the .scheme for the coming season at one p.

Reports were received from the various local branches, recommending additions to the official judges list in course of preparation. In accordance with a recommendation from the annual meeting to arrange for the election of the Council on provincial representation the following boundaries have been fixed:— Auckland North district will be all the country north of the Waikato river, inland as far as Mercer, thence in a straight line to Hauraki Gulf. That portion of the Auckland province south of this division to be South Auckland, Taramiki to be the provincial boundary. Wcllington-Manawatu to be the territory west side of the mountain range from Wellington to the provincial boundary of Taramiki and on the north by the Anckland provincial boundary. Ilawkc's Bay-Wairarapa to be the country east of the mountain line from Petanc to the back of Gisbornc. That naki is comprised in the provincial boundaries of that province. For the South Island there is one representative 'and tm division required. In reference to the use of the. word "pedigree" as designating stud stock it was resolved-to ask-the kindred Dairy Breeders' Associations to agree on a joint note to be sent to the Auctioneers and Live Stock Salesmen asking them to 'restrict the use of the word "pedigree" only to animals entered in the. recognised Herd Bo.iks. With a view to educating, young breeders to become proficient in* the work of judging stock it was resolved that it be suggested to A and P Associations to allow one to accompany the official judge when officiating at a'show as a means of imparting education. A number of animals which have implied with the penalty clause as tit fcge were passed for acceptance. Applications for prefixes and afp.ves were .received from Messrs F. J. Watson, W. V. Harkness and P. J. Linn. The question as to who is the, breeder of an animal was decided upon, and it was resolved to adhere to the rule previously observed by the Association thai the owner at the time of calving is the breeder.
