THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.
ANOTHER SECTION OPENED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. The extension of the Midland Railway to Glcuhope was officially opened to-day by the Hon. W. H. Herries, Minister for Railways. There was a large and representative gathering from all parts of the district, about eight hundred travelling by railway from Nelson and intermediate stations, and three hundred by road from Murchison. About twenty members of Parliament were also present. Speeches were made by representative citizens in regard to tho potentialities of the Murchison district, and urging the speedy prosecution of the line to link up with the West Coast Main Trunk line, there being at the present time some sixty miles only between the railheads. The Minister and party were entertained at luncheon, and on return to town a banquet was held in their honor. The Minister and Parliamentary party return by the llinemoa late to-night.
