THE LADIES' TOURNAMENT. DEFEAT OF OIIAMPION. By Telegraph—-Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. The weather oil .Saturday morning necessitated the postponement till the afternoon of the New Zealand ladies' golf championship tournament. The second round of ihe championship had been set down for the morning, but it was played in the afternoon in conjunction with a bogey handicap. The links were in good order after a heavy fall of rain, and not in the least sloppy. The second round was really the first trial of strength, as the first had, with one exception, proved a- series of easy wins. The most salient feature in the day's play was the defeat of Miss L. Brandon, at the hands of Mrs. McCarthy, of Dunedin, after a close contest. The champion was very much off form. The game in which most in- : terest was taken was that between Mrs.: Slack and Miss Gould, it being won by; the former, aftet a splendid ■exhibition 1 of golf, by 5 up and 3 to -play. The senior bogey handicap competition was won by Miss P. Anderson, 1 down. The junior division fell to Miss Richmond, 4 down, who also secured first place in the junior stroke handicap on Thursday.
