ESCAPED LUNATICS.

CRIMINALS AT LARGE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Eriday. Two men, named Smith and Brockbank, criminal patients, escaped from the mental hospital at Avondale at six o'clock last night, presumably by using skeleton keys. Both men 'have been concerned ill burglaries. Smith was in gaol for several years and was supposed to be malingering at the gaol and was sent to the asylum a£ insane, but is now perfectly sane, He is described as a man of very little ability, but very cunning. Brockbank is a man of very considerable ability. He is really insane, but it is impossible for a layman to recognise his insanity. He has been in gaol several times.
