A fine fast and open game was witnessed by a large crowd on the Cale-j donian Grounds this afternoon between the South Canterbury and Otago Rugby teams, said to be one of the best games ever seen here. It was generally expected that the home team would win, as all the best men w-ere available, for the first time this season, and the expectations were justified. The Otago back division was outclassed, except in the first half of the second spell. The home team's win was largely due to th.o fine kicking of Scott, who at the close of the game potted a goal from near half way. The final scores were: South Canterbury 13 '{two tries by Dalton, one converted by Darrock, and two potted goals by Lynch and Scott); Otago 9 (a try by Smith, and two penalty goals by Oockroft). England with the Australasian team. The public will'have a splendid opportunity of comparing the games, as they will be able to witness both. The League game, starting at Western Park at 1.15 p.m., will finish in time to enable spectators to journey alom to the Recreation Ground, where *- ~ ; and Wellington will meet at 3 p.m. With such a dual attraction it is safe to predict record attendances THE RUGBY GAME.
