BANK OP NEW ZEALAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. The Post states that it is understood that the Bank of New Zealand has purchased bank premises in Sydney. The building is seven storeys high, and is situated at the corner of George street and Wynyard street, and has hitherto been partly 'occupied by the tourist department. The price paid is stated to j be about £60,000. LAND FOR SETTLEMENT. Wellington, Wednesday. The Maori Hill Estate, Southland, has been .purchased by the Government for closer settlement. It comprises 3500 acres of good.agricultural land. Negotiations are in progress for the purchase of three other estates. A CHARGE OF BIGAMY. Napier, Wednesday. An elderly man, named George Henry; Hayward, has been committed for trial on a charge of bigamy. The evidence showed that he married Julia Ellen Trainor at Invercargill in 1877, and in 1894 went through the form of marriage at the Registry Office in Invercargill with Catherine Jane Carson. FINED FOR BETTING. Gisborne, Wednesday. William Powell has been fined £25 for betting. on the racecourse on the occasion of the Hunt Club's races. SMALL GRAZING RUNS. Wellington, Wednesday. During the progress of the deputation to the Prime Minister a question was asked by Mr. Campbell (Hawke's Bay), whether there was any prospect of holders of grazing .runs being granted the freehold. Mr. Massey replied that he submitted the question to the Crown Law Office a month ago and the matter J was still being considered. The position was so complicated with numerous J amending Acta that they scarcely knew 'where they were.
