GALES AT THE ISLANDS.

A CUTTER WRECKED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. Officers of the Fiji Government steamer Ranadi, which arrived from Suva last night, state that the weather which has been prevalent in the islands this winter is the worst that has been experienced for several seasons. A succession of heavy easterly galea' has made navigation of the coral-bound islands a difficult matter, and during the last few weeks several vessels have been in trouble. The most serious happening was the total wreck of a 28-ton islandowned cutler, which was .piled up on Nasnlai Reef during the storm "a few nights before the Ranadi sailed. The crew, made up of islanders, were all successful in reaching shore, some after being in the water for 24 hours. The steamer Dorrigo, employed in the Suva and Samoan mail service, touched a reef at one of the island ports. Divers were unable to estimate, the extent of the damage, and the steamer sailed for Wallace. She was four days overdue at Suva on the return passage when the Ranadi sailed.
