The Government is planning reciprocity shipping regulations, so that certificates issued by Canada may be recognisable by the British Board of Trade.
A MURDER PLOT. New York, August 24. An alleged plot to murder Representative Johnson, of Kentucky, has been disclosed. Johnson was prominent in the proposed legislation affecting the Col-, umbia district, and incurred much civic enmity. SERIOUS FOREST FIRES. Paris, August 24. Serious forest fires have occurred in Heyeres. The sanatoria are threatened. One hundred and fifty troops and 200 sailors are fighting the flames. THE AEGEAN ISLES. Athens, August 24. A deputation of Aegeans is proceeding to Rome to request Italy not to restore the islands to Turkey.
CRIMINAL SECRETLY BURIED. London, August 24. The parish authorities secretly buried Murray and his victims. Murray's real identity is unknown.

Clarke's Governorship has been extended for sii months, when Lord Chelmsford will succeed him. A FRONTIER TREATY.' Received 20, 12.25 a.m. London., August 25. Russia and Austria-Hungary have sent an urgent note to the Porte to ratify the protocol of 1908 relating to the modification of the frontier of the Jczere district. It is understood that the Porte will acquiesce.
ACCIDENT OX A BATTLESHIP. Received 2(>, 12.25 a.m. London, August 25. The battleship Superb, at Portland, was lowering a boat when the- falls gave way and precipitated seventeen man into the sea. Two sailors were drowned. Five officers leaped overboard and saved the remainder.
THE KAISER ILL. Received 20, 12.25 a.m. Berlin, August 25. The Kaiser is suffering from a cold, which prevented his attendance at the manoeuvres in Saxony. MONEY FOR SHIPS. Received 26, 12.25 a.m. Berlin, August 25. The Imperial dockyard at Kiel has intimated that it must discharge a thousand men unless afforded adequate means for executing work on tlie scale provided by the Navy law. FROM GAOL TO HIGH SCHOOL. Sydney, August 25. Mr. Carmiehaol has announced that Darlinghurst Gaol will be shortly vacated and transformed into a high school, lie declared that in future boys would be able to pass from the smallest primany school to the university free of charge.
THE BOMBAY PRESIDENCY. Received 26, 12.25 a.m. Sydney, August 25, Lord Chelmsford states that there is no foundation for the cablegram that he hae been appointed Governor of Bombay.
A COMMERCIAL APPOINTMENT. Received 2(1, 12.25 a.m. Sydney, August 25. Mr. Nielsen, a member of the Assembly, has been appointed Government Commercial Agent for the West Coast of America with headquarters at Sail Francisco.
