A Reuter correspondent interviewed General Beyers, who is visiting England, and discussed a defence scheme costiu« half a million, all South Africa's responsibility, partially or entirely relieving the British taxpayer of the burden of defence. The registration of all citizens for military service will begin in January. Coast defence will be undisturbed, but the coast defence force will be available for the Imperial Navy in anv part of the Empire. The present naval contribution will be continued.
