FOOTBALL.
THE LEAGUE GAME. NEXT THURSDAY'S MATCH. Football enthusiasts are promised a great treat next Thursday at the Western Park, when the New South 'vfales representatives meet Taranaki at the League game. The New South Wales team contains the cream of Australian Rugby footballers, and Taranaki will place a strong team in the field, as permission has been granted to draw upon Taranaki players who are playing in other districts. Most likely "Shover" Hardgrave will be amongst the players, and Taranaki should put up a good fight. This- will he the first time an Australian team under the advanced code of Rugby has visited Taranaki, and great interest : is being taken in the match. It is unfortunate that the New Zialand League arranged to play the Taranaki match when the Union match, Wellington v. Taranaki, .was fixed for the same day, but the Taranaki League have decided to start at 1.15 sharp, so .as the public can arrange to see both matches. Mr. B. J. Moffatt, the honorary solici- ! tor of the New South Wales League, is 1 making the trip, accompanied by his wife. The visitors, with players and officials, number thirty-three, quite a large party.
THE RUGBY GAME. The Waimatc first juniors, winners of the Taranaki Junior Football championship for 1012, have rather a good record. The number of matches played during the season were nine, winning eight and drawing one. The points scored were 144, and only nine were recorded against.
