WORK AND WAGES.
NEW PIA'SmUTH TRADES AND LABOR COUNCIL. The ordinary monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Trades and Labor Council was held on Wednesday evening, when the following resolutions were unanimously carried:—-That this council enters a most emphatic protest against the proposed amendments to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, which aim at interfering with the present selection of assessors and ad-' vocates in trade disputes: that a eopy of this resolution be forwarded to the various members of the Legislature representing this district, and that tney be asked to meet a deputation from the council to further discuss the proposed amendments; that this council most strongly protests against the leasing .or sale of any Crown or public lands to any private oil company. In view of the short time at their disposal, it was decided to hold over till next year the question of holding a suitable demonstration on next Labor Day.
