THE WELLINGTON FATALITY
DOUBLE DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An air of mystery still surrounds the circumstances of the death of Edward Marshall (known as Edward Caton) and Mary Ann Norman, whose bodies were found in a room in No. 18, Walter street, on Monday evening last. Dr. A. McArthur, coroner, opened ail enquiry into the matter to-day. Senior-Sergeant Rutledge" conducted the proceedings on behalf of the police. Last Saturday afternoon, it appeared, Marshall and Norman shifted into the house. The woman was marriied, but separated from her husband, who had been away for about four years. She had been living with Marshall, who was a seaman, practically since the time her husband left her. Wm. Walter Crump, son-in-law of Mrs. Norman, visited the house about halfpast eight o'clock on Monday evening, and getting no response to iiis knocks he entered by a side door. The furniture, he fonrd, had not been unpacked, and going into the bedroom h:e saw the body of a man lying; on the floor. Tie reported the occurrence to Sergeant McCorrie, who. with Crump, went to the house and discovered the dead body of the woman lying on the bed. Medical evidence failed to show the cause of death, and the inquest was adjourned to allow of an analysis of the contents of the stomach.
