The report of the Eltham Dairy Co., presented at the annual meeting on Saturday, stated, inter alia:—During the vear we received 45,'0G1,5831bs of milk, 'producing 1,671,250.901bs of 'butter-fat and 1,942,0921b5, or 807 tons Ocwt Oqr. 12 lb of butter. The decrease in the output of butter compared with the previous year was 8 tons 4cwt Oqr. 6!bs. The average test was 3.7 per cent.; 23.20 lbs of milk made one pound of butter. The over-run of the butter over the test was 16.20 per cent. The total cost of manufacture, including depreciation, was £lO 4s 5d per ton, or I.OUd per lb. The average price paid to suppliers for but-ter-fat was 11.5Gd per lb, and the balance in hand on realisation will make a further payment possible of .77d per lb. The total payment therefore for butterfat for the season will be 12.33 d per lb. During the past year the shareholders sanctioned the installation of cheese plants. These are now in course of j completion, and we anticipate being in readiness to manufacture cheese by about November 1 next. The third annual meeting of the Alton Dairy Co. was held last week, at which the annual report and balance-sheet were duly adopted, the former showing that < Is 2d per lb bad been paid for butter-fat. The following comparative summary shows the results of the last two years' working:—l9lo-11, lbs milk, 6,942,587; lbs of butter-fat, 261,014.7; lbs cheese, 673.569; milk to cheese, 10.30; cheese to fat, 2.580; average test, 3.7C0; 1911-12, lbs milk, 6.940,757; lbs 'butter-fat. 261,496.9; lbs cheese. 676,461; milk to cheese, 10.26; cheese to fat. 2.580; average test. 3.767.
