BourtzefT's account of a meeting with the notorious Azeff at Frankfort last Thursday. M. Bourtzeff had previously unmasked Azeff and had long attempted to discover his whereabouts. Finally he tracked him down and forced him to grant an interview under promise not to betray Azeff. The latter stated he ,lmd been living alone for three years. lie said lie was obliged to betray some of the revolutionary plots to the Russian police, but the blind confidence of the police enabled him to carry out several assassinations, including those of the Russian Minister De Plehve, the Grand Duke Serge, and Admiral Dubassoff. He felt the greatest remorse for revealing the name of Rasputina to General Gerasimoff in 1908. She and five others were executed. Azeff stated he desired to be tried by revolutionaries, and was willing to suicide if found guilty.
