ENTERTAINMENTS.

empire picture palaci:. The Empire Theatre was again well filled last night, the occasion being th» repetition of Saturday's splendid programme. Every item of this series is well worthy of a. star position on any programme; and will again doubtless draw another big crowd to-night, when it will bo screened for the last time. "Tracked Down," an Essanay detective drama, again proved most popular! Thrilling and strong in every scene, this story throbs with melodramatic intensity. Tim thirst for gold, with its attendant evil passions, which sever friendships and lower men to the level of brutes, are the constituant points of this remarkable subject, which came in for very loud applause. "The Deputy and the Girl," a Western romance by the same company, was another good; item. There are riding incidents in this which fairly takes one's breath awav There is magnificent scenery which is worth seeing for itself, but above all there is a wealth of rich human interest, the touch of pathos that reaches with certainty, and a poetic ending .which loaves the onlooker satisfied. "Lola'sPromise" and "The Law or the Lady" were two other notable dramas, whilst) for scenic splendour it would be hard to hnd anything to equal "Glimpses of t,1)6 Caspian Sea" and '•Around the World in Two Hours." Some charming and fai.-y like moonlight scenes were depicted in the former series, which set the amateur photographers among the audienc# thinking. In the comedy section many !• extremely funny and novel situations were portrayed, which kept the onlookers in a good humour. Commencing to-morrow night the management will piesent the film that has taken Europe* by storm. This film, entitled "Love in the Tropics," is by the famous Nordisls Company. The story is of the kind thai evokes the sympathy of the ladies, ami the dressing and staging are reallv magnilicent. A .bright incident in the'drama is a beach scene, in which a party of holiday-makers enjoy swimming in" the 1 oilers, and the whole production is on a scale of magnificence hitherto unattcmpted in picture work. The usual , Empire prices will prevail throughout tlje season.
