DISTRICT NEWS.
OKATO. (From a Correspondent). Mr. J. S. Fox lias just completed extensive additions to his grocery store, which is now the finest shop along the coast. The recent extension has been completed by Messrs Penwarden and Hart, local contractors. It consists of, a bulk store and warehouse erected alongside the present shop, 00ft long by 38ft wide. The total frontage to the shop is now over 02ft, and as a uniform verandah has been erected throughout, it has a very imposing appearance. The increasing volume pf Mr. Fox's business rendered some addition absolutely necessary, and Mr. Fox has made it large enough to enable him to more effectively display his large stocks of crockery ware, etc. Messrs Penwarden and Hart, contractors for the erection of the new factory, are now making good progress with their work. In fhe meantime the directors of the company intend installing a. temporary butter-making plant in the Leith road creamery. The main road through the township is a disgrace, and it is impossible in wet weather almost for cyclists or motor cyclists- to negotiate it. Surely the volume of traffic that concentrates here i would justify the Council in metalling the road through the township for the full width. The domain recently acquired is being fenced and planted. The danger of driving and cycling without lights was forcibly illustrated by the accident that occurred here the other evening. It is astonishing the number of unlighted vehicles on% meets along the country roads just after dusk. What a harvest your Bon Tippins would have if let loose in the country roads for a month or so!
