Perfect spring weather greeted the second day of tin; Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting, tlie principal attraction of the day being the Grand National .Hurdle Race. There was again a very large attendance, while the course had improved in condition since Tuesday. Shillelagh and Morihiko were first into the straight and jumped the last fence together, the former winning by a neck after a good finish. Laghmor was six lengths away third, with Max next. As the horses turned into the straight Paisano was bumped and lost several lengths. The Native went on in front of Waterworks, who had passed Paisano, and easily 'holding his own in tlie run from the last hurdle won by two lengths. Paisano was four lengths away, followed by Uranium, Darby Paul, Nescot, Sandy Paul, and Koran. Time, 3min 53sec. After the race the stewards held an inquiry into the jostling of Paisano by The Native and disqualified the latter for the race, and his rider C. Price for twelve months. Genius, commencing quickly, had charge until the straight was reached, when Countermine and La Reina came through, the latter lasting longest and securing the verdict by half a head, with Brown Trout half a head back. Woolston Plate, of 120 sovs; six furlongs (weight 9.0).—3 Clanmena 1. 11 Medallist, 2; 7 Nithsdale, 3. 5 King Try, 4 Armstrong; 6 Alexis, 2 Aimwell, and 8 Armamento also started. Medallist, Alexis and Armstrong landed first into the straight, but inside the ditance Clanmena put in a claim, and staying longest won by a length, with a neck between second and third.
