MYSTERIOUS DISEASE.
VALUABLE HORSES LOST. Feilding, August 12. A few weeks ago <1 mysterious form of sickness afTeeted the horses of Rangiwaliia, and several valuable celts died as a result. The form of sickness started with a swelling in the throat, and then travelled down to the legs. A Government veterinarian visited Rangiwahia and recommended certain treatment, and it was thought that the trouble had been stamped out. However, a prize stallion belonging to Mr. C. B. Wor>d lias .succumbed, this being the third loss he has .sustained since the outbreak. There are no indications of any more horses in the district "being afTected, and hopes are entertained that no further cases will devulop. Tn the meantime farmers are naturally anxious. The veterinary staff have the matter in hand, and investigation is proceeding in order to ascertain the cause of the sickness and the right method of treatment in the event of the outbreak manifesting itself elsewhere.
