The Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting opened to-day at lliccarton in beautiful weather. There was a large attendance of visitors from all parts of the Dominion, which testified to the popularity of the steeplechase fixture. Considering the severe weather experienced during the winter, the course was very good.
