In future the charge and conduct of schools will be transferred from the clergy and undertaken by the authorities of the Hibernian Society, whose representatives from various branches will constitute practically an education a d, with school committees 'f>om branches The new body will be resp-a-sib e for the salaries of Marist Brothers and , 8 conducting a vigorous canvass for f«n<ls to cover the school fees of those children whose parents are unable to pay. In time it is hoped to build ud a reserve fund sufficient to make all primary Catholic schools free. THE TIMARU BOARD.
i, ~ * Timaru, Last Night. At the Education Board to-dav the Can-man Mr. W. M. Hamilton; di S - issed the Education Commission's report. He was strongly averse to P change in the number of boards and the abolition of committees. He approved of the recommendations amending the syllabus, especially for the inclusion of history and moral instruction, and also approved of the council of education, but not of the proposed personnel. He pointed out that the. Commissioners admitted the inadequacy of material for forming good conclusions'.
