Meetings of journalists were held this week to formulate proposals to be laid before newspaper proprietors as to the rates of p.iy and overtime, and other matters. It is announced that other meetings will be held, and steps taken to obtain the opinion of country journalists.

THE KAITANGATA STRIKE. Dunedin, Last Night. Despite notice by the Kaitangata Coal Company that all employees who did not go to work to-day would be considered dismissed, about forty truckers did not go to work. A big meeting of truckers, miners and shiftmen was held this forenoon. The outcome was that a deputation of shiftmen and miners was appointed to interview the management with the object of endeavoring io settle the dispute with the truckers. The result of the interview has not yet been disclosed. The truckers sav that thev will fight till their comrade, Neale, is reinstated. A number of miners sympathise with the truckers, and it' is doubtful if tlu-y would work with the strike-breakers." At CVtle Rill eight truckers refused to go on Ibis morning: otherwise the mine is undisturbed bv the present trouble.
