N.S.W. LEAGUE TEAM. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. 1 Sydney, August 12. I Noble will not accompany the League I team. Williams will replace him, and \ O'Malley and Deane are additional selections. A LEAGUE CONVERT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Yesterday. Manning, who captained the North Island Rugby country team which toured the South, has gone over to the Northern Union, and played under the League rules on Saturday. j CHRIST'S COLLEGE (22) v. OTAGO HIGH SCHOOL (3). Christchurch, Last Night. The annual match between Christ's College and the Otago Boys' High School was played this afternoon in the presence of a large number of spectators. The ground was in first-class order, but a strong south-westerly wind proved rather disconcerting. College held tie upper hand throughout, the visitors' rear division, being lamentably weak, although their forwards showed up well in the loose. The local backs, although not too sure at times, were much superior to their opponents', and as they were willing to take plenty of risks, a fast open game resulted. The match ended: College 22, Otago 3.
CHARGE AGAINST THE OTAGO TEAM. Dunedin, Last Night. The Otago Rugby Union held an enquiry to-night into the complaint made by Mr. Buchanan, proprietor of the Railway Hotel, Invercargill, against members of the Otago team that met Southland at Invercargill on August 7. Mr. Buchanan alleged that some members of the team disarranged the beds in certain rooms, and soaked the bedding and mattresses with water, and as compensation claimed £5 from the Otago Union. Thirteen members of the team were present, and evidence was given by them, and a statement made by the manager of the team (Mr. Wilson) went to show that the mischief had not been done by any members of the team. The enquiry was adjourned for a week to hear the evidence of Childs and Ongley, two players not present to-night. . WANGANUI MATCHES.
(From our own correspondent.)
Saturday was an ideal day for the play-off between Kaierau and Pirates for the senior cup. The attendance was large and the game fast and furious. With sun and wind behind them, Kaierau ran up 13 points—tries by Takarangi, Faber and Meuli, two being converted by Meuli. Changed round, Pirates more than held their own, and quickly ran up nine points—a try and< two penalties', the game being very spectacular. Both aides played gramdly, and the game raged up and down the field, nor further score being recorded. Kaierau win the senior cup, Wanganui College the junior, Wanganui the thirdclass, and Technical College the fourth. There was only a small attendance at the League trial match, and after a scrambling gamo the A team won by 25 (or thereabouts) to 17. City Juniors won the second-class League competition, defeating Eastern by 8 to 5. TARANAKI REPRESENTATIVES.
The Taranaki representatives will leave by the Rarawa for Auckland this evening. Bemsten, one of the front row men, who has been Cain's club mate all the season, is unable to accompany the team, The vacancy will be filled by the inclusion of either Burke or Birchall, probably the latter, as the former plays on the same Side of the scrum as Cain, and would therefore not pair as well as Birchall. THE TARANAKI NATIVES. , The following programme has been mapped out for the Maori team, which was selected after a trial game at Okaiawa last week:—August 17, v.
