A MAGNIFICENT GIFT.

Conibere, of Toorak, have offered to erect a. building costing £15,000 for the Young Women's Christian Association, as a memorial of their father. The association's recent campaign to collect £25,000 realised £12,500. The off or has been accepted. THE STATE GOVERNOR'S RESIDENCE. Sydney, August 10. The dispute between the Federal and State Governments over the GovernorGeneral's residence in Sydney (has been settled. Lord Denman will remain in possession, the Federal Government paying a rental of about £4500 yearly. The rental will bo reckoned at the Tate of 3y 3 per cent, on the capital valud and will depend on tihe airea of land required. The arrangement will only hold good during Lord Denman's tenure of office, after which the house wilt revert to the State. THE CANADIAN CADETS. Sydney, August 10. Captain Davy, dn charge of the Canadian cadets, states that he understood on leaving Vancouver there woidd bo 5000 dollars ready in the bank. Leading citizens had guaranteed this, but they -evidently thought there would be no immediate need. The cadets also anticipated free passes on the railways. These wore not granted, though a considerable reduction was allowed. Tha audiences were also under expectation®. ,
