SPORTS PROTECTION

A HEALTHY LEAGUE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At an executive meeting of the New Zealand Sports Protection League it was unanimously decided that the support of the Wellington branch of the league be given to any proposed legislation providing for a reasonable increase of racing days, and to any legislation to repeal the present prohibition against the publication of racing dividends. A petition to this effect is to be forwarded to Parliament through Mr. ¥. M. B. Fisher, M.P. Amendments to the constitution will be considered when tho organisation work is completed. The league membership is steadily increasing. The Wellington branch has nearly 5000 members registered. SOUTH CANTERBURY CONCURS. Thnoru, Last Night. At a special meeting of the committee of the South Canterbury branch of the Sports Protection League, the president and secretary were unanimously authorised to sign" the petition for increasing the number of race days and the publication of dividends. Tho Waimate committee this afternoon .postponed consideration till August 23.
