BREACHES OF THE LAW. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dannevirke, Last Night. Judgment was given by Mr. S. E. McCarthy, S.M., to-day' in a case in which a native woman was charged with taking liquor into a proclaimed areai, th* Tahoraite pa, in order to provide refreshments at the end of the run of the Dannevirke Hunt. She purchased beer and whisky and sent them to the pa by a carter. It was contended for th* defence that the carrier should have been prosecuted. His Worship (held ttat under section 53 of the Justices of the Peace Act the defendant was liable, and convicted .her and fined her £2 and costs. Henry Baker, licensee of the Club Hotel, was to-day fined £5 and wrdered to pay costs for allowing a youtii under -the age of 21 years to be supplied wiik liquor for consumption on the premises. Colin Douglas, Henry Baker, and Annie Baker, the son and- wife respectively of the licensee, were each fined £1 and costs for supplying youths under 21 years of age with liquor for consumption on licensed premises. In view of the fact that the licensee was not personally aware of the commission of the offences, and that -he ordered the youths off the premises as soon as he discovered they were there, His Worship refrained from endorsing the license.
