AUSTRALIAN TRADE. By Cable-Press Association-Copyright. _ Melbourne, August 8. Referring to the critical international situation, a member of the House suggested that .Mr. Fisher should cable to Britain and ascertain if a ]l necessary steps had been taken to protect Australian trade.
■Mr. Fisher stated that the Government was not acquainted with all the steps taken by 'Britain to safeguard the Dominions' interests, and the Government was hardly called upon to enquire into the subject, but it was satisfied that if any additional vigilance were necessary it would be shown by the British Government.
