Two of the strikers were fined £5 each, and 65 others £2 each. A NEW LABOR PARTY. HIGH ASPIRATIONS. Received 8. 0.25 p.m. Sydney. August 8. A new partv has been formed within the Labor Movement Committee, with the title of the Labor Principles Defence Committee. It is composed of enthusiasts who claim that certain actions of the Government are jeopardising the true interests of labor. It particularly aims at constitutional, financial and industrial reforms, including the abolition ot the Upper House and State Governor, and more economy in expenditure. UNION SECRETARY FINED. Melbourne. August 8. The Full Court reversed a decision whereby the secretary of the Waterside (Workers' Federation was ordered to pay £1 10s 9d damages for having, it was alleged, maliciously procured the dismissal of a non-unionist in employment as a winchman. CHICAGO RAILWAY STRIKE. New York, August 7. There is email hope of reaching an amicable agreement with employees of the Chicago railways. Ten thousand six hundred are attested. A STEAMER STRIKE. * New York, August 7. Honolulu reports that fifty masters and mates of the Inter-Island Steamship Company have struck for higher pay and a holiday on Sunday. The strike has shattered the schedule, and is seriously hampering communications, A fleet of Ifteen vessels is tied up.
